Time Inc. hires GroupM’s Michael Erlinger to head up video expansion

Former GroupM executive Michael Erlinger has been hired by Time Inc to the newly created role of senior vice president of business and legal affairs for television and video.

In this position, he will oversee Time Inc.’s deal making for TV and video and will spearhead the development of business models for its video expansion.

According to the company, its videos have generated more than one billion views during the past year across its brands, which include People, Sports Illustrated, and Cooking Light.

Lon Jacobs, executive vice president-general counsel and corporate secretary, said of his hire: “A seasoned veteran in the entertainment and media industry, Michael has a deep understanding and knowledge of the digital and broadcast space. He will be a tremendous asset to us as we extend our premium content and engaged audiences into this vital space.”

At GroupM, he served as senior vice president of business affairs at for its entertainment division in North America. He also served as global head of business affairs and chief compliance officer for ESP Properties, the media group’s unit dedicated to serving sports and entertainment rightsholders that launched earlier this year.
