Statoil, the world’s 11th largest oil and gas company, has appointed McCann London to is UK advertising account as it looks to tell Brits its story.

Statoil ran its first UK specific campaign following the appointment of UM London to its £2m media account in 2011.

Then, Statoil wanted to target business leaders, government ministers and senior civil servants to highlight its innovation and sustainability.

It relied heavily on branded content features namely with The Times, Telegraph and Economist and was also a sponsor of the Financial Times's FT Global Energy Leaders Summit.

With the hire of sister Interpublic agency McCann London, the company’s aim now is to “tell the Statoil story to more of the UK”.

The Norwegian energy group is one of the largest offshore and subsea operators in the world and supplies more than 20 per cent of the UK's gas demand.

The creative brief will focus on its corporate and social agenda, according to Zaid Al-Zaidy, chief executive of McCann London.

The appointment is with immediate effect.
