Facebook to connect users with charitable causes with new ‘Donate’ button

Facebook has introduced a new call to action to encourage users to donate to non-profit organisations and charities.

The social network is helping to connect the site’s extensive user base with good causes by giving Pages the ability to run fundraiser efforts directly to their website through the 'Donate Now' button.

A Facebook statement read: “Every day, people use Facebook to raise awareness and support for causes they care about and to motivate others to do the same.

"We're inspired by how much good comes from these connections, so we've added a 'Donate Now' call-to-action on Pages and link ads to make those connections easier than ever."

Both the ALS Association and the American Cancer Society are using the feature to drive traffic now with others set to follow.

ALS may rue the fact the button was not in place for 2014’s viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
