YouTube is looking to tap India for content creators with the launch of a new studio in Mumbai.

Setting up shop at Mumbai production centre Filmcity, the Google-owned video company will partner with film school Whistling Woods International to help train creators.

YouTube talent will have access to the studios, its equipment and training programmes as a result of the move.

Video is steadily gaining momentum in India as smartphone adoption booms and YouTube wants to have its foot in the door early on. Especially after Indian YouTube creators AIB and TVF both recently breached one million followers.

David MacDonald, head of YouTube Spaces Asia Pacific, said: “The YouTube Space Mumbai will be another way for YouTube to help foster creativity, entrepreneurship and partnership with top video creators in the country and around the world.

“It’s amazing to see what Indian creators have already been producing and we are excited to see what is coming next.”

The opening (date to be confimed) will add the venue to YouTube’s spaces in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, New York City, Sao Paulo, and Berlin.
