Ofcom will launch an investigation into Ian King’s swearing incident which occurred live on Sky News earlier this month.

The regulator confirmed that it would look into the incident in which King appeared to shout the F-word off camera on Ian King Live during a live interview with economist Michelle Meyer about interest rates in the USA on July 30.

Footage showed King introducing Meyer and opening with a question regarding the “tepid” growth rate in the second quarter. However once the camera changed to her and before she could answer King suddenly shouted “fuck.”

At the close of the interview King apologised to Meyer saying that his microphone lead had fell out which led him to swear. The business presenter also took to Twitter to issue an apology and summed up the incident as a Kenneth Tynan moment, referring to the late theatre critic who was one of the first people to say the word “fuck” on live TV during a 1965 interview.

A spokesperson for the UK media regulator confirmed that it was “investigating this programme, which included the most offensive language before the [9pm] watershed.”
