Famed poster artist Drew Sturzan has been drawn out of retirement to pen new concept art for the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, having been unable to resist the full force of the franchise.

Sturzan is well regarded for his work on the first trilogy, making him the first choice to repeat the job for the series re-boot, with the first fruits of his work being handed out to attendees at the D23 event over the weekend.

Lucky recipients were able to ogle a starry vista on both background and foreground with John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver all posing in character as Finn, Rey and Kylo Ren. They are joined by series stalwart Harrison Ford as fleets of X-Wings and Tie Fighters swoop overhead.

The new film is scheduled for release on 18 December with director J.J. Abrams promising a running time of 124 minutes, or thereabouts.

The release comes after Star Wars toys were last week leaked, giving in depth descriptions of the franchises' new characters.
