Last week we wrote about Turner Sports’ extensive social and digital coverage for this weekend’s 97th PGA Championship.

Missing from the planned coverage at the time was Snapchat, however, Turner Sports today announced that users will be able to contribute video and photo snaps for potential inclusion in the official PGA Championship Live Story. PGA viewers tend to skew older, while Snapchat users skew younger among social platforms. Still, Turner Sports sees an opportunity:

"There’s never been a more exciting time to be a golf fan,” Morgan Dewan, Director of Social Media, Turner Sports, tells Found Remote. “We feel this PGA Championship is stacked with talented young golfers that are ushering in a new style of play and popularity: Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. With them comes a younger audience.”

The Live Story will be geofenced to limit snaps to attendees, and special decals and filters - including a PGA Champ logo, ‘This is Major’ hashtag and the Wanamaker trophy - will be available for them to use.

For those following at home, the Live Story will highlight the best moments from fans on the ground.

“We use all our platforms: TNT, PGA Championship Live, PGA.com and social to cross-promote all of our coverage,” Dewan said. “We think Snapchat will help complement this by providing a look at the PGA Championship from fans’ perspective.”
