Sainsbury's is looking to ecommerce to build on the £800m sales its clothing brand TU brought in earlier this year with the nationwide launch of the label's online store.

The supermarket has launched its clothing website nationwide today (13 August), following a successful trial which began in the Midlands last September before being rolled out to London and the Southeast in January.

The new online store includes womenswear, menswear and childrenswear with a wide range of items available for next day delivery, standard delivery and click and collect. Customers can also collect their orders from 710 stores including 112 convenience stores.

Sainsbury’s director of online, Robbie Feather, said the launch is in line with the supermarket's strategy of providing an anywhere service and will "significantly" increase the reach of the Tu brand.

"Customers have increasingly been looking to buy Tu online, and we have seen a really positive reaction to the new site from the selection of postcodes that have had access to it over the past few months," he said. "We’re already seeing particularly strong online sales of dresses and childrenswear and look forward to customers’ reaction to the new site".

To date, the retailer has launched 19 collections with Gok Wan, which increased market share and drove double digit sales growth. Sainsbury’s said that it sells a pair of Gok for Tu jeans every minute in stores and a pair of knickers every three seconds.

The supermarket is currently the UK’s seventh largest clothing retailer by volume and 10th largest by value according to Kantar Worldpanel data.
