J-League side V-Varen Nagasaki has unveiled an atomic bomb-themed kit to commemorate the victims of the United State's WWII nuclear attacks.

The specially designed limited edition kit from the Japanese side was issued to remind countrymen of the 80,000 casualties endured during the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings.

The club issued a statement claiming that 70 per cent of Japanese people don’t know the anniversary date of the bombing. As a result it released the ‘Pray for Peace” kit emblazoned with origami cranes and an iconic statue from the city centre.

Takuya Takagi, head coach of the club said: “The peaceful pray statue in Nagasaki and the folded paper crane are part of the design of this jersey.

“We can feel Nagasaki from these icons. Playing in this jersey in the next two matches is very significant. We would like to pray for peace and convey the preciousness of peace to new generations.”

The club is fairly adventurous when it comes to the design of its strips. Earlier this year the club released a 10-year anniversary tuxedo kit to celebrate the event in style.
