Sue and Mel's success on BBC's Great British Bake Off has failed to carry over to their ITV chatshow

Great British Bake Off hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have had their ITV chat show axed after just one series.

The duo’s daytime talk show, which launched in January, failed to attract a big enough audience and will not be renewed for a second series.

Average audience figures for the ITV 4pm slot were around 750,000 and lost out heavily to the BBC's 4pm programmes, Antiques Road Trip and Escape To The Country, both of which pull in audiences of two million.

The show featured a mix of celebrity guests and cooking - a similar format to their highly successful 1990s Channel 4 series, Light Lunch, which helped launch their careers.

An ITV spokesperson said they “hope to work with them on other projects in the future” which is unsurprising given their huge popularity on the BBC’s Great British Bake off.

The pair’s success on the BBC’s Great British Bake Off reached new heights when the programme returned last week for a sixth series, pulling in a record 9.3m viewers for a series opener.
