Plastic card making company Oomph has created the above map called ‘United Brands of America – Where USA’s Companies Were Founded’ where each state name has been replaced by one big brand that was founded there.

While most of us know that Apple was started in California’s Silicon Valley and that Facebook’s roots lie in Mark Zuckerburg’s Harvard dorm room in Massachusetts, not all brands have such famous founding stories.

Burt’s Bee’s got its humble start in Vermont back in 1984 when its co-founder Burt Shavitz, a beekeeper, picked up a hitchhiking artist who ended up using his unused wax to create skincare products that are now available in stores such as Target and CVS.

Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 by brothers Frank and Dan Carney in Wichita, Kansas after borrowing $600 from their mom.

And Krispy Kreme first came onto the scene back in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina when founder Vernon Rudolph rented a building and started selling his donuts to local grocery stores. According to the company, the scent of the donuts began drifting onto the streets and people would stop and ask if they could buy the freshly-cooked treats directly from him. So, Rudolph cut a hole in an outside wall and started to sell the hot glazed donuts to customers right on the sidewalk.
