Taylor Swift’s “1989” clothing line might offend her Chinese fans due to its shared date with the Tiananmen Square where hundreds were killed while partaking in democracy protests.

The singer’s clothing brand - named after her year of birth - hits China next month but because of the political sensitivity around the date had reportedly caused her team to consider censuring some of the products. Swift’s representatives have since come out and said reports of the logo being removed were “incorrect”.

Some of the items sport the slogan “T.S. 1989” after her initials and birth year. However, both parts of the logo could be seen as a reference to Beijing’s Tiananmen Square where pro-democracy protests were violently suppressed in 1989.

The products will be sold excusively online via Chinese e-tailer JD.com, while Tennesse-bassed brand development business Heritage66Company is also helping Swift’s venture in China.

China’s Communist Party has banned references to the incident in the media including the Internet and books
