PornHub erects premium monthly paywall to become ‘The Netflix of Porn’
PornHub is primed to unveil a premium paywall offering HD, ad-free pornography.
The PornHub Premium service will adopt the Netflix model, taking $9.99 a month in hard cash from consumers. In exchange it will offer up thousands of hours of exclusive content and high definition streaming options.
While PornHub will still offer free access to keep loyal site visitors coming back for more, the Premium option will appeal to the most hardcore of users.
Corey Price, vice president of Pornhub, said: “Users will benefit from enhanced access to all of the content they already enjoy on Pornhub.com - with improved streaming quality - as well as over 100,000 full-length premium exclusive scenes at the touch of a finger or click of the mouse.
“We’re looking to take the crown as the ‘Netflix of porn,’ and with the colossal amount of content we’ll be providing – and adding tons more daily – we’re confident our fan base will totally embrace this product and reinforce our position as the top provider of on-demand adult video.”
The attempt to monetise the site’s content may face some stiff resistance from consumers used to getting by without paying. Furthermore, some viewers may not be keen on having monthly charges from Pornhub on their bank statement.
