New York-based shop Johannes Leonardo has named Andrew Dawson, co-founder of luxury audio company Master & Dynamic, as its first chief strategy officer as the agency builds out its leadership team.

He will be tasked with evolving the agency’s strategy offering and will work with clients including Adidas, Google, and Coca-Cola.

While at Master & Dynamic, which makes premium headphones that are sold at Apple Stores and fashion boutiques, he led strategic vision and helped with brand development.

Throughout his career, Dawson has worked as a freelancer at a number of creative agencies where he worked on strategy with clients such as Bloomberg, Chobani, and Victoria’s Secret. He also spent some time working in planning roles at agencies including R/GA and McCann Erikson earlier in his career.

Johannes Leonardo co-founder and chief creative officer Leo Premutico said: "If you don't get the strategy right, nothing else you do matters. Therefore, our bar for CSO has always been high. Andrew fits the bill. His experience outside of communications strategy and in building brands, from both sides of the fence, will be a tremendous asset for our partners' businesses and our own."

Earlier this year, the agency named Cedric Gairard as head of production, Kelsey Robertson as global brand director, and Andrew Lee as finance director.

It also recently hired Greg Tebbutt as group account director and head of operations. Previously, he worked at Geometry Global South Africa where he was group managing director.

Earlier this summer, Johannes Leonardo rolled out the latest installment of its global Adidas Originals ‘Superstar’ campaign featuring Pharrell.
