Glossy magazine Glamour has apologised for a widely lambasted dating blog which offered tips such as 'answer the door in a negligée' and 'stock the fridge with his favourite drinks'.

Entitled '13 little things that can make a man fall hard for you', the blog advised women to learn statistics about their boyfriend’s favourite sports team, give him a massage with an optional 'happy ending' and 'make him a snack after sex'.

The post came in for widespread criticism for being sexist and patronising, with one Twitter user describing it as "an insult to men and women".

In response to the controversy, the post has now been removed from the Glamour website which has admitted its publication was a mistake.

In its apology, Glamour wrote: "We’ve been taking some heat for a post on man-pleasing tips that ran here a few days ago — and honestly, we kinda asked for it. (That’s the consensus across the internet and even within our own ranks.) We hear you, tweeters — and we agree.”

"We understand that the list read like a 1950s marriage handbook - and nobody wants to go back there.

"What we want for you is love based on equality, not indentured servitude with date night. We're sorry for slipping off message."
