Al Roker launches live cooking show on Meerkat

NBC’s Al Roker will livestream three food-themed shows this week on Meerkat in partnership with cook-at-home delivery company Plated and popular food bloggers.

Through Roker Labs, the new live-streaming branch of his production company Al Roker Entertainment, The Today Show weather anchor is livestreaming shows that last anywhere from five to 15 minutes on Meerkat in an effort to combine his broadcast skills with new technology.

The first show, which was called ‘In the Kitchen with Plated’ and aired on 27 July, featured the co-CEO of Plated Nick Taranto and vice president of culinary Elana Karp at the company’s New York headquarters.

‘Food al Fresco’ will air on 28 July at 4 p.m. eastern and will feature food bloggers Phoebe Lapine and Erin Palinski-Wade as they discuss culinary trends. ‘Baking with Pastry Chef Raiza’ is set to air at 1 p.m. eastern on 29 July, where Roker will interview YouTube pastry chef Raiza Costa.

Currently there are no other segments scheduled after this week, but Roker's goal is to create engaging shows on a weekly basis.

Of his latest endeavor, Roker said: "With the increased popularity of live streaming, it is the perfect time to leverage the newest technology with our more than two decades of experience in creating premium quality programming to entertain, inform, educate and delight viewers everywhere.”

Al Roker Entertainment was founded more than 20 years ago. It has produced programs for networks including The Weather Channel, Food Network, and Discovery Channel.
