Uber hit with another law suit as disgruntled Canadian taxi drivers launch $400m legal action
Uber is continuing to ruffle the feathers of cabbies across the globe, this time in the Canadian province of Ontario where Toronto taxi drivers have launched legal action that could see the ride sharing app forced to pay out $400m (£198m) in damages.
Law firm Sutts, Strosberg LLP, which is representing the taxi drivers, told Reuters they think "Uber X and Uber XL have created an enormous marketplace for illegal transportation in Toronto".
Uber defended itself with a spokesperson maintaining the action is "without merit". The law suit also includes an injuction to stop Uber operating in the city.
Uber has caused controversy in the world's major cities including London and New York. In April this year the company filed complaints about Germany and Spain after the countries complained Uber's law don't comply with taxi regulations.
In total, Uber has received injunctions in five European countries, including Belgium and the Netherlands
