Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna have axed their planned transfer of Julio Rey, after discovering that the striker had posted ‘puta Depor’ or ‘f*ck Depor’ in a tweet made following a match in 2012.

Rey’s signing from Arosa SC had been announced over the weekend but was abruptly brought to a halt following the discovery, after management decided that the player wouldn’t respect the team.

In a statement the club said: “Deportivo, who announced the signing of Julio Rey this week, has decided not to complete the deal after finding unfortunate comments made by the player on a personal profile online,’ the statement read.

“Deportivo understands that a player should wear the blue and white shirt must be an example of sportsmanship, have respect for opponents, commitment and positive sentiment towards the Depor, its colours, its shield and the values that the institution represents.”

Rey has yet to comment on the news but has subsequently deleted his Twitter account.
