Ahead of National Bratwurst Day on 16 August – otherwise known as Bratsgiving – Droga5 has created an ad for sausage brand Johnsonville that looks like it was pulled straight out of the ‘80s.

The video features Leon Sunday, whose claim to fame is that he has produced more songs about sausage than anyone else in history.

As he serenades viewers with ‘The Ballad of Bratsgiving,’ the faux music video flashes melodramatic images of sausages alongside Sunday as he sings and plays the harmonica – there’s even a random waterfall thrown in towards the end for dramatic effect.

The ad is a bit of a departure from the earlier spots Johnsonville rolled out earlier this year with Droga5 under its latest brand platform ‘We don’t make sausage. We make family. And sausage,’ which are more product-focused and slightly less cheeky than this one.

The brand is also asking people to write a third verse to the ballad that they can submit to its site or Facebook page. The winning submission will be recorded and added to the end of the song.
