#WorldEmojiDay generates over 271,000 mentions with Miller Lite proving most active Twitter account

#WorldEmojiDay, when social media celebrated the illustrations that are used to evoke a feeling within digital communications, drew over 271,000 mentions online.

According to Spredfast, the day-long celebration which took took place on Friday 17 July saw 271,050 social media references, with the most active Twitter account using the hashtag being beer brand Miller Lite, followed by Sprite and the NFL Network respectively.

The rest of the top 10 most active accounts that used the hashtag were Disney, Chaler Khazaal, Juampa Zurita, NASA, Cory O'Donnell. Cookie Monster and Twitter.

The official website for the day built up anticipation, asking fans to 'Light up Twitter' during the 24-hour period by sending out messages using their favourite 50 emojis.

The top countries discussing the day were found to be the US, followed by the UK.

However one brand that was perhaps not celebrating in the same spirit was McDonalds, which saw a number of its poster adverts featuring emojis graffitied across the UK.
