With The Open 2015 coming to a close after a very wet few days at St Andrews, SocialBro has studied the competition’s Twitter engagement for The Drum unveiling that 187,800 tweets were sent with hashtag #TheOpen.

Averaging 1,570 tweets per hour, competition winner Zach Johnson came in second for online mentions, with golfer of the moment Jordan Spieth snagging the most chat.

The audience was dispersed globally but over a third of those discussing the Scottish competition were based in the USA. Following with just over a quarter of mentions was the UK.
