The 24-hour industrial action that saw London Underground grind to a halt yesterday prompted a flood of profanity on Twitter, as disgruntled commuters took to social media to vent their frustrations.

Creative digital and social agency Impero chose to capture those curses for posterity by creating a realtime interactive map, displaying tweets including swearwords and #TubeStrike on the London map as they happened.

Lauren McGreggor, senior account manager at Impero, said: “Londoners certainly didn’t hold back during yesterday’s strike. We saw f**king a-plenty, loads of w**ks and tw*ts and lots of sh*t everywhere."

Pedro Valentim, head of technology at Impero, said: “To capture the moment, we used the Twitter streaming api to pump tweets as they came into the map. In combination with that we used websockets with help of socket.io and node.js to push the new tweets to the browser.”

Impero’s clients include Lindt, Beefeater and Jacob's Creek.
