Dixons ecommerce director Jeremy Fennell has been promoted to managing director of Carphone Warehouse replacing chief executive Graham Stapleton.

The pair will initially work together for a six month period after which Fennell will take full responsibility of the Carphone Warehouse business.

Meanwhile, Stapleton will take up the role of executive chairman of the recently announced Sprint Connect venture ( a stateside partnership with the Sprint mobile network) with former Irish managing director Peter Scott, assuming responsibility for the on ground delivery as Sprint Connect managing director.

Fennell said: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role as managing director of Carphone Warehouse UK and Ireland. Dixons Carphone is going through an incredibly exciting time right now, positioning ourselves as the destination retailer for the connected world, for which mobiles are the vital remote control.

"Carphone Warehouse is a strongly performing business and I feel privileged to be working with such an experienced and committed team. I hope to bring everything I’ve learnt from my 14 years of experience with Dixons to this fantastic thriving business as we continue to grow and develop our customer offer even further.”

Most recently Fennell has overseen the development of the ‎eCommerce proposition for the past four years and added responsibility for Harrods Technology and Dixons Travel in 2013.

He began his career with the group as a member of the sales team at Currys and then joined the commercial team having completed a degree in retail. Following spells with the business in the Czech Republic and Norway, he returned to the UK in 2007 as category director for Computing.
