A terminally ill woman found on a street corner in California with no memory of her past life has traced her family after setting up a Facebook page in an effort to discover her identity before she dies.

The unnamed woman, referred to as ‘Sam’, was found in need of medical assistance on a street corner in Carlsbad Reaches on 1 February, with no clue to her identity beyond an apparent British or Australian accent.

The mystery subsequently came to the attention of the FBI who publicised the case in a bid to find information

In a Facebook post Sam said: “It has been a bit over three weeks that I have been out of the hospital and there have been no leads by the authorities of finding my family. My friends that I have made believe it is time to use the internet ourselves to see if we can find my family or friends.”

Following the appeal the woman was subsequently identified as 53 year-old Ashley Menatta.
