Starbucks is set to make a major push into the French market after signing a licensed partnership with Casino Restauration that will see the coffee brand open stores within Géant Casino Hypermarkets and Casino Supermarkets.

Starbucks will open full format stores across Casino Restaurant-owned sites, expanding on its 100 stand alone sites in the country.

Groupe Casino, the parent company of Casino Restauration, currently runs 10,416 stores including 127 Géant Casino hypermarkets and 444 Casino Supermarkets.

Kris Engskov, president of Starbucks EMEA, said the new partnership will mean the retailer can now deliver its brand experience to more people in convenient locations.

“Casino Restauration has the perfect network and local expertise to deliver this new growth in the hypermarkets and supermarkets right across the country, where our customers want us to be. We’re excited to be working together to build beautiful stores and to bring great coffee to more customers in France," he commented.

The push comes amid strong growth for Starbucks; global net revenues at the coffee company jumped by 18 per cent to a record high of $4.6bn in the second quarter of 2015 while global store sales were up by 7 per cent.

In EMEA, Starbucks delivered its “strongest Q2 performance in history” with sales rising by 2 per cent.

The company has also invested heavily in digital and mobile payments with its mobile order-and-pay capability now accounting for 19 per cent of its US store tender..
