The Drum has hired Ronan Shields, executive editor of ExchangeWire in the newly created role of digital editor while Seb Joseph has been promoted to interim news editor, replacing Jessica Davies.

Shields will head up the coverage of the digital advertising sector while facilitating events and strengthening the publication’s overall coverage of the burgeoning digital trading sector.

He joins from ExchangeWire where he spent nearly two years, having previously worked at Centaur with Marketing Week and New Media Age.

Shields commented: “I can’t wait to join such a great team and add my own insights and experience while covering this exciting industry and I look forward to helping the team progress.”

Meanwhile, The Drum has also promoted Seb Joseph to interim news editor, taking over the running of the news team following the imminent departure of Jessica Davies who will take up a new opportunity in August. Jennifer Faull has also been promoted to senior reporter.

Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum commented: “We’ve had an amazing year so far and it’s only just over the half-way point with much more to come. I am pleased to welcome Ronan on board the team as I know how strong his knowledge of the digital advertising market is internationally, and while I am sad to see Jess depart I am also sure that Seb will continue to build on the success we have seen in recent years in delivering strong news and feature content. We will continue to grow the team moving forward.”

Tony Connelly, a former freelance journalist with the Evening Times has also joined the editorial team in Glasgow as an online reporter.
