Need to Know – The latest US media & marketing news: Swift's 1989 on Apple Music, Tinder going public & Microsoft mission statement

Morning all, here’s a glimpse at all the media and marketing news you should know today.

1. Taylor Swift WILL have her latest album 1989 on Apple’s streaming service. Entertainment Weekly reports that the album will be present on Apple’s app for the 30 June launch.

2. The firm which owns Tinder is set to take online dating public. IAC/InterActive, the media conglomerate run by Barry Diller, is preparing to take its Match unit public, which includes Match.com and Tinder, according to Business Insider.

3. The Huffington Post’s soon-to-launch 24 hours live news network will most likely be part of AOL-owner Verizon’s over-the-top subscription service, reports Variety. The 24 hour service is slated to be released in the second half of 2015.

4. Nissan has snapped up the naming rights to the football stadium of Tennessee Titans. The Japanese auto firm, which has its US headquarters in the state, will see the team – and its Titan pickup trucks – run with the same branding.

5. SiriusXM is planning to launch a new ad-supported national news channel in partnership with Fox News, called “Fox News Headlines 24/7, reports MediaPost. The channel will source content from the Fox Business Network and Fox News Radio, as well as associated web sites.

6. Monica Lewinsky calls for slammed the ad industry from capitalizing from shaming the public, notes Adage. She said: “How is the money made? Clicks. The more shame, the more clicks. The more clicks, the more advertising dollars. And the more advertising dollars... the more of what sells: shame."

7. Facebook has reported a slight interest in its staff diversity as a result of its well-publicized push to be more inclusive to people from all backgrounds. The Wall Street Journal reports that women in tech jobs at Facebook increased to 16 per cent, from 15 per cent, meanwhile the share of minorities in tech jobs grew to 49 per cent, from 47 per cent.

8. Microsoft has a new mission statement: “Our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.” Business Insider reports that the idea was shared with staff on Thursday.
