Worldwide chief creative officer of Ogilvy & Mather, Tham Khai Meng, says that the key to being creative is to be stubborn and open minded at the same time.

Tham is one of the most highly regarded individuals in advertising and has led Ogilvy & Mather to win Network of the Year at Cannes three times in a row in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Speaking to The Drum at Cannes Lions 2015, Tham said that a creative person has to be “unreasonable because remarkable work is not done by reasonable people”.

In giving advice, Tham says that successful creative individuals have to “make new kinds of mistakes because then you do know that you’re going to new kinds of places.

“You have to fail quickly and explore new lands. If one follows that then you can’t go far wrong."
