Witches curse Etsy over spell sale ban

Online marketplace Etsy has been accused of mounting a witch hunt after it banned the sale of metaphysical services (spells) from its platform, following in the footsteps of larger rival eBay which banned such trade in 2012.

Until now Etsy had permitted such transactions so long as sellers made it clear that results weren’t guaranteed and included something physical, a wand for instance, to give purchasers some value for money.

A subsequent change of heart has seen these rules torn up however with new guidelines stipulating that: “Any metaphysical service that promises or suggests it will effect a physical change (e.g., weight loss) or other outcome (e.g., love, revenge) is not allowed, even if it delivers a tangible item.”

The change hasn’t gone down well with supernatural sellers who have mounted a petition against what they see as ‘discrimination against Pagan and Wiccan faiths’.
