An executive at American multi-brand specialty retailer J Crew has come under fire after sacking 175 employees and then celebrating the layoffs with a New York drinking spree, posting updates to Twitter with the hashtags #hungergames and #maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavor as he did so.

Likening his experience to surviving the dystopian gladiatorial combat of sci-fi hit The Hunger Games Alejandro Rhett also posted pictures of himself flipping the middle finger whilst leaning against a wall with a colleague.

These images were subsequently deleted but the New York Post claims to have obtained screenshots of the content, verifying its veracity.

A spokesperson for J Crew said in a statement that they did not condone such behavior and that ‘the appropriate actions took place’ as soon as they were made aware of the incident.
