Mr President, TBWA Paling and Sudler London have all made the shortlist for the Young Lions Health Awards, a new award launched this year calling on young creatives to devise a campaign for developing countries.

Mr President’s Ryan Price and Cece Chu have been nominated for a piece of work titled ‘The Essentials’ which proposed a new range of empty products sold in supermarkets around the world (see film above).

TBWA Paling Walters – the agency’s dedicated health arm – received a nomination on the back of Elizabeth Sharpe and Cathy Croker’s ‘Uni-health’ work for Unicef which looked to show how healthcare systems around the world are stronger when connected (see film below).

Catherine Mohan and Jay Coombes from WPP shop Sudler London have been recognised for ‘6 million hearts’, a celebrity endosed campaign that turns the symbol of a heart made with hands into a visual petition.

Rounding up the UK’s offering was Jonny Torr and Christian Moore, from bmore creative advertising and deisgn, a firm based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The Make 18 campaign was based on the insight that there’s a communication gap between the young influencers and the older donors. Their solution was a social network where people upload pictures of themselves at 18 and nominate others.

Overall, shortlist of 18 entrants came from 14 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, The Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UK, and USA. Their work can be viewed on the Young Lions website here.

They were judged by a panel that included Unicef Goodwill Ambassador and actor, Sir Roger Moore and Unilever’s chief marketing officer Keith Weed.

“This competition comes at precisely the right time, since in under three months the United Nations will be setting new global goals for health,” said Dr. Mickey Chopra, jury member and head of Unicef’s global health programmes.

“As we have seen with the Millennium Development Goals, these new goals will need targeted communication in order to have a chance at success, so the engagement and outstanding talent shown by these young people is a very hopeful sign.”

The winners of the Young Lions Health Award will be announced and presented at the official Lions Health Awards Ceremony in Cannes tomorrow (Friday 19 June).
