Chris Evans, the new face of Top Gear, has provided a hint as to who will be joining him in the newly reformatted show.

Evans, who was appointed late on Tuesday evening, has hinted, without doubt, that he will be joined by a female host.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former TFI Fridays host said the team would “absolutely [bring a woman aboard] - but not for the sake of it,” before adding “I can confirm that definitely 100 per cent”.

The move may not be welcomed by Top Gear die hards (yes they are a thing). Sue Perkins, the last female to be linked to the job, received a number of death threats in April as a result of a Twitter hate campaign.

Over the past few months, car enthusiast and presenter of ‘The Classic Car Show’, Jodie Kidd has frequently been listed as a likely candidate for the role.

Evans was wished the best of luck from former hosts Clarkson, May and Hammond earlier today (Wednesday 17 June). The new team will begin filming the new series in the coming weeks.
