Called ‘360° View by Getty,’ it will feature stills from key entertainment, sports, and news moments such as the Cannes Film Festival or the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The company said new imagery will be continually added.

Hugh Pinney, vice president of editorial content for Getty mages, said: “Getty Images has always been at the forefront of innovation, employing the latest, cutting-edge technologies to bring our customers best-in-class imagery from the world’s top creative minds and global events as they happen. We know that consumers love our imagery so we are thrilled to be working with Oculus to offer a truly immersive and social experience on their market-leading platform.”

Users can experience the images with the ‘Gear VR Innovator Edition’ for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6 series. Oculus Rift is slated to launch in the beginning of 2016 and streaming of the collection will be available then.

The move is Getty’s latest to inch its way into the consumer space. In 2014 it made imagery available for non-commercial use at no cost.
