Clarkson, Hammond & May wish Chris Evans well in Top Gear role
Former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have given their support to Chris Evans following his appointment as host of the hit motoring magazine show.
Evans revealed the trio’s backing during his Radio 2 breakfast show when he read out a series of texts he’d received from the team live on-air after informing them of his decision to accept an offer from the BBC.
Clarkson is said to have texted back wishing the ginger haired presenter ‘the best of luck’… before following up with a ‘piece of advice which I’m not going to repeat on the radio’.
Co-presenter Hammond also passed on warm wishes, saying he ‘didn’t blame him’ for taking on the role.
Evans has signed a three-year deal to front Top Gear, securing the future of one of the BBC’s most profitable exports.
