Thousands of rock music fans descending on Download this weekend will be able to pay for food and drink via RFID dog tags, as it becomes the first major UK festival to adopt the technology.

The wristband chip holds information including the access control permission as per the ticket type bought and how much money festival goers have pre-loaded onto their account to spend around the event.

On-site points will also be available to top up the tag using debit or credit card, cash, or via the website or Download app using free wi-fi.

The festival website said that the decision to use RFID comes after five years of "learning, development and improvements that have now given us the confidence to make the move to implement RFID technology".
