‘YouTube Gaming’ is the company’s effort to rival Twitch, a similar service that Amazon bought last year for about $1bn.
The two had a cheeky back-and-forth on Twitter when YouTube Gaming first announced the service with its new handle:
. @YouTubeGaming Welcome Player 2. Add me on Google+. #kappa
— Twitch (@Twitch) June 12, 2015
It will feature more than 25,000 games that will each have their own page, featuring videos and live streams.
There will also be channels from game publishers and content creators.
Other features include notifications that pop up whenever a channel a user has subscribed to has started a livestream.
“And when you want something specific, you can search with confidence, knowing that typing ‘call’ will show you ‘Call of Duty’ and not ‘Call Me Maybe,’” the company blog post announcing YouTube Gaming said.
It will launch this summer starting in the US and UK.
