Fast food chain Pret A Manger has revealed it will be one of the first outlets in the UK to accept Apple Pay transactions after signing up to be a launch partner of the fledgling cashless service.

Launching next month the iphone based contactless payment system is being touted as simple, secure and private method of payment.

Pret itself is no stranger to contactless technology having pioneered its use six years ago, during which time the sector has grown in market share to account for nearly half of all card payments at the chain.

CEO, Clive Schlee said, “At Pret, we aim to complete most till transactions in under a minute. Contactless payment has been very popular with our customers and we’re delighted to be able to make shopping at Pret even more convenient for many with the introduction of Apple Pay next month.”

Apple Pay enables people to link a credit or debit card to their account via the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, authorising each transaction with a unique security code without the need to store card numbers on the device or on Apple’s servers.
