Starbucks is phasing out the ubiquitous cappuccino from its US stores amidst a coffee revolution that is seeing flat white take its place for those seeking milky out coffee.

A mainstay of the chain for over 30 years the drink may have finally met its match with the new varirty, which is now the default option in cities ranging from New York to San Francisco.

Consisting of a double shot of espresso and warm full-fat milk the foamy treat is served in a small ceramic cup, catering for sweeter palettes and believed to have originated in Australia or New Zealand in the seventies.

A Starbuck spokesperson categorically ruled out discontinuing the caffeine booster from its 760 UK branches however, advising that there is still room on its menus for flat whites, cappuccino’s and latte’s.
