Facebook launches Facebook Lite for users with slow connections
Facebook has launched Facebook Lite – a bare-bones version of the original app meant for Android users with slower internet connections.
The platform had previously been tested in parts of Africa and Asia.
According to research gathered by eMarketer, more than 1 billion Facebook users will access the platform each month from their mobile phones this year, increasing 16 per cent from 2014.
By 2019, nearly 90 per cent of all Facebook users will regularly access the platform via mobile.
“Facebook Lite is less than 1MB so it is fast to install and quick to load,” wrote Facebook in a blogpost. “It includes Facebook’s core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and more.”
Over the next few weeks, Facebook Lite will become available in parts of Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe.
