BuyMyWardrobe appoints first chief marketer to aid growth

BuyMyWardrobe has appointed Andy Harrington as its first chief marketing officer as the social commerce site looks to ramp up its growth.

The platform, launched 2008 as a series of designer fashion recycling events before going online in August 2012. It now attracts a community of over 95,000 registered users who and sell pre-owned designer fashion.

Harrington, a former director of digital marketing for a large Healthcare IT company, has been hired to help facilitate growth and sales through the expansion of digital marketing strategies.

Reporting directly to chief executive, Kal Di Paola, he will also guide the company’s creative and tech teams to optimise the platform’s user experience and digital communications.

“I bring with me a larger vision for the future of what I believe social shopping should be,” he told The Drum.

“A vision you will see realized through BuyMyWardrobe in the coming months. Social shopping has not been done right yet. By anyone. We are going to change that.”

The site is backed by Carmen Busquets, founding investor and board member at Net-A-Porter, Mimma Viglezio, former EVP of global communications at the Gucci Group and David Suddens former chief executive of Dr Martins.
