Cloud computing firm Salesforce has acquired iOS calendar app Tempo AI for an undisclosed sum with the app being discontinued for new users from 30 June – although existing customers will still be served.

A personal assistant with its roots in the same research institute that created Siri, SRI International, Tempo AI was founded in 2011, going onto win investor backing for its feature rich format, including pull-down menus for regular events such as call, coffee and meetings to improve scheduling on the go.

Confirming the sale Tempo CEO Raj Singh said: “With Tempo, we created a smart calendar, using artificial intelligence to enable the next generation of mobile productivity. We brought context to your events and automated many of your tasks, just like a real-world assistant, saving our users millions of minutes,” according to an announcement of the acquisition. Tempo also says that joining Salesforce allows it to “continue our mission at a much larger scale.”

It is unclear at this stage whether Salesforce will adopt Tempo’s software directly or set its engineers toward working on other projects.
