Guardian US has promoted Lee Glendinning, who helped launch Guardian Australia, to editor.

The appointment is one of many to be made by Guardian News & Media’s newest editor-in-chief, and former US editor, Katharine Viner.

Glendinning began her career in Australia at the Sydney Morning Herald, and most recently served as the deputy editor of Guardian US, helping pioneer features on police brutality across the country.

“Lee was an integral part of the success of Guardian Australia from the beginning, and has had a similarly dramatic impact on Guardian US, bringing excellent news judgment, digital flair and personal tenacity as well as strong management skills,” said Viner.

“Having worked very closely with Lee for the last two years, I know that she will make Guardian US an even bigger success."

While senior editorial appointments to be announced in the next few months, Viner has confirmed that Paul Johnson will remain the deputy editor of Guardian News & Media.
