Before there was Fallon, before there was Kimmel, before there was Leno, there was Letterman.

After more than three decades of entertaining late-night talk show audiences, David Letterman will close the curtain on his final show tonight.

Here's a list of some of his most memorable moments.

1) Letterman admits to sleeping with colleagues

In a 2009 episide, David Letterman admitted to having sex with some of his coworkers after a man threatened to extort the talkshow host.

Rather than paying the man $2m, Letterman chose to admit to what he had done, and apologize to his colleagues.

2) Joaquin Phoenix makes everybody uncomfortable

Wearing sunglasses indoors, Joaquin Phoenix appeared on a 2010 episode and spent the segment mumbling beneath a large beard.

After spending almost ten excruciating minutes trying to coax responses out of the actor, Letterman said, "We’re sorry you couldn’t be here tonight.”

3) Post 9/11 monologue

In one of the most emotional episodes ever of late-night American television, Letterman opened his first shows post 9/11 with a heartfelt monologue.

"If we are going to continue to do shows, I just need to hear myself talk for a couple of minutes," he said.

4) Borat celebrates his wife's death

While promoting the movie 'Borat,' Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on the show in character.

Seemingly unaware that this was a character portrayal, Letterman looked on uncomfortably as Cohen celebrated his wife's death and shared his hobby of taking photos of women on the toilet.

5) Drew Barrymore flashes Letterman

In 1995, a young Drew Barrymore appeared on Letterman's show.

Upon hearing it was his birthday, Barrymore jumped on Letterman's desk and flashed her breasts.
