The ALS Association has been honoured with a Special Achievement Award at the 19th annual Webby Awards in New York in recognition of the charity ice bucket challenge which took over the internet last summer.

An evening of celebration for internet trailblazers and visionaries culminated with a moving five word tribute to challenge co-founder Pat Quinn from musician Dave Grohl who said ‘Every August until a cure’, sparking a standing ovation from the watching audience.

David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards, commented: “Tonight we celebrated the creative accomplishments of some of the most talented digital innovators and luminaries that lit up the Internet this year. It is a rare opportunity to honor side-splitting comedic performances, addictive apps, transformative social movements, and everything in between on a single stage.”
