As Youtube continues to celebrate its tenth birthday, Sam Boggis-Rolfe, digital strategist at Livity compiled a list of the ten things that all video bloggers do.

Vloggers have become online celebrities in their own right and brands and agencies are now clambering to work with them.

Livity has compiled a list of tactics vloggers have employed to build such highly engaged fan bases below. What does it take to be a vlogger on YouTube in 2015?

1) The inclusion of bad takes

Vloggers create an authentic and personal touch with their audience by including stumbles and stutters. We have all seen those little hiccups. Watch PJ or Alfie nail it down.

2) Stock music

The kind of stock music that symbolises happy summer days. It keeps the flow of the video going. It’s more T Swift than NWA. Here’s Marcus Butler’s.

3) Nice fonts

To add to that rosey, summer feeling that the stock music has given, they add a friendly looking font to the mix.

There’s a font out there called ‘Throw your hands up in the air’ - It married YouTube and they have some beautiful babies that have their own YouTube channels that have millions of subscribers.

4) Cutting their clips very very short

These guys are the kings and queens of jump cuts. This technique keeps the viewer enthralled, giving the video a fast pace that is now the norm in the digital video content. Charlie Is So Cool Like has over eight years of experience in this matter.

5) Feelings

YouTubers are a deep and meaningful bunch. They reveal their greatest fears, and let their audience into their personal lives. Here’s Alfie getting deep and meaningful.

6) The introduction to the family

Viewers get increasingly more and more access into their personal lives. This is the kind of access that super fans crave and shows a human side to the vlogger. We get to meet mum, dad and the whole family. Meet Oli White’s brother.

7) The tours

Viewers are taken on some pretty amazeballs tours and into some pretty rad places. Like Zoella letting us see what’s in her handbag or Emma Blackery giving us a tour of her bedroom.

8) The greetings, the hellos!

Every vlogger has a way of captivating the audience in the first few words of a vlog. The first few seconds of all digital video content is so key and these guys know this.

Jim Chapman is the champion of this, making all his viewers his best buddies.

9) Pranks

Pranks have taken over the internet and YouTube is at the centre of this. YouTubers are roaming the streets on a regular basis looking for someone to fool, so watch out! Watch Roman Atwood throw a lot of loo roll over someone's house.

10) Collaboration

It’s a small and slightly cliquey world for these YouTubers. Collaboration is essential and is an easy way to migrate audiences from each others channels. So who is in the core UK YouTuber gang? Casper Lee, Thatcher Joe, Pointless Blogg, Zoella, Oli White, Marcus Butler and Jim Chapman.
