Advertising Association appoints James Murphy as chairman

James Murphy, founder and CEO of Adam & Eve DDB, has been appointed by the Advertising Association to serve as its new chairman following the departure of Cilla Snowball, CEO and chairman of AMV BBDO.

Murphy will work alongside AA chief executive Tim Lefroy and president Andy Duncan to enhance engagement with agencies, brands and media to better influence politicians and opinion formers.

Duncan said: “James takes on the role at a really challenging time – not least politically – but thanks to Cilla, he is being handed an organisation in fantastic shape to do the job.”

Snowball, who was instrumental in enhancing the political and business clout of advertising through the Advertising Pays campaign, added: “We’re building appreciation of what advertising does for the economy, for business and for society. Right across the sector, people are working responsibly and collaboratively with the AA and in James, we have exactly the right person to keep up the momentum and make us even stronger.”
