A US production company has showcased the dangers of smartphone addiction with the conceptualisation of the iPhone 7 as a neurological module implanted inside the ear.

‘Upgrade’ by Brooklyn-based media company Noka Films and TBWA predicts that smartphones will soon be reimagined as head implants showing the growing role technology has in our life.

Adweek quoted the producers as saying: “Upgrade is a story of a young woman who is experiencing an embarrassing malfunction with her older model of the iPhone and is desperately seeking an upgrade.

"iPhones and similar smartphones are now an integral part of our modern life, and in a way, beginning to alter who we are. To ridicule our addiction to our smartphones, we played out a world where this technological evolution may one day take over us."

Apple proves to be an easy target for satire with Netflix earlier this year mocking the Apple Watch with the fake launch of the Netflix Watch.
