Facebook has added video calling to its Messenger feature, allowing users to turn messaging conversations into video chats by hitting a video icon in the top right corner of one’s mobile screen.

The announcement is the latest in a string of updates Facebook has given to its Messenger function, including the ability to send money to friends and the launch of its Messenger Platform.

The tool is available for calls made from one mobile phone to another, regardless of whether its iOS or Android.

The company said that video calling will expand Messenger’s real-time communication features for the 600 million people who use Messenger every month.

In the first phase of its launch, video calling will be available for people in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the UK, the US and Uruguay.

Facebook said it will be introducing the feature in other regions in the coming months.
