Dixons Carphone has revealed the first major initiative since the two companies merged last year in the form of a newly created mobile network iD.

Available from May iD will operate on the Three network in a bid to offer increased contract flexibility, greater access to free data roaming and the UK's cheapest 4G packages.

Graham Stapleton, UK chief executive at Carphone Warehouse, said the idea for the mobile network was born out of common challenges and frustrations of its customers.

"A recent study by Which? found that overspend on mobile phone charges in the UK amounts to £5.42bn each year – showing just how many people aren’t on the right plan for them.

"We are also a generation obsessed with the mobile internet and accessing data and services on the move – things people are either paying too much for or just aren’t getting. Addressing these challenges forms the basis of the first wave of plans from iD.”

Following the launch iD will gradually introduce new offers and packages based on consumer demand.

The first offer from iD will run on the Samsung A3 and can be purchased in all Carphone Warehouse, Currys and PC World stores, as well as online channels.
