Swedish home improvements brand Ikea is to branch out from flat pack furniture with a hi-tech table that aims to turn kitchen-phobes into budding chefs.

Despite looking like an ordinary hung of wood the table top gizmo is stuffed to the gills with sensors and processors designed to weigh ingredients, suggest recipes and even offer tutorials on food preparation.

Concept Kitchen 2025 imagines how people might go about boiling an egg in the not too distant future and there’s not a microwave in sight as happy cooks manipulate their touch sensitive furniture which even includes a built-in hob.

Ikea envisage the multi-use surface as being suitable for food preparation, cooking and play – it can even be used as a dining table.

Sadly Ikea has no plans at present to release the range.
